Ping Golf to Host Productivity Inc. Autonomous Maintenance

Kaizen Event

Autonomous Maintenance shown to eliminate the causes of up to 60% of unplanned downtime

SHELTON , CT, October 23, 2007 - Ping, one of the world's leading designers and manufacturers of golf clubs and accessories, will host Productivity Inc.'s next Autonomous Maintenance Kaizen Event called Maintenance Miracle. The event will be held Nov 6-9 at Ping's facility in Phoenix, Arizona. The event is an intensive learning experience designed to teach the principles of Autonomous Maintenance through a combination of classroom learning and hands-on training and implementation.

Productivity's Maintenance Miracle Kaizen Event is a proven training methodology for the successful implementation of an Autonomous Maintenance effort. It teaches the steps necessary to involve operators in maintaining their own equipment through daily inspections, lubrications, detecting abnormalities and precision checks. The critical aspect of the process involves promoting strong partnerships between operators, maintenance technicians, engineers and leaders in the operating and maintaining of equipment. The result is restoration of equipment to its ideal state, establishment of basic conditions for maintaining it, and preventing equipment deterioration. When properly implemented, Autonomous Maintenance conservatively eliminates the causes of 40-60% of unplanned downtime, freeing skilled trades for more specialized activities, like major overhauls, upgrades, predictive programs and new equipment planning and design. At the conclusion of the Productivity event, attendees understand the techniques and have the skills necessary to begin an autonomous maintenance effort in their own facility.

The Miracle is in the Maintenance
Although Ping had previously taken steps to implement various aspects of Lean Manufacturing, it wasn't until Ping officials attended a Productivity Inc. Maintenance Miracle session that they recognized just how significant Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) would be. During that 3 and a half-day workshop hosted by another of Productivity Inc.'s clients, the Ping associates gained valuable exposure to Total Productive Maintenance and equipment care and learned about its vital role in successful Lean implementation. Working in teams alongside other attendees and associates from the host company, Ping began applying the methods learned as they worked to transform current state to future state and increase equipment effectiveness and availability.

"In less than four days we had a terrific understanding of the techniques and skills necessary to begin an autonomous maintenance effort in our own facility," says Ken Kays, Facilities Manager at Ping. "We learned that machine breakdowns are preventable through proper maintenance and through teamwork between engineering, maintenance and manufacturing, with strong support from management. It was obvious that TPM was going to be critical to our Lean implementation."

Who Should Attend and Why
Senior and mid-Level Managers, facilitators, engineers, production and maintenance team members interested in increasing overall equipment effectiveness are encouraged to sign up and attend the Maintenance Miracle Kaizen event. The program will include over 12 hours of classroom training spread out over three days, with each day's session followed by four hours of on-site process implementation. The event closes with team presentations, and detailed discussions over what was learned and how to apply the information back at their own facilities.
