Certification Program in Total Productive Maintenance
Launched by Productivity Inc.
and Fisher College of Business
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 18, 2010 – Middle- and top-level executives can now obtain certification in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) through a new program being launched by Productivity, Inc., and the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University.
The TPM Certification Program begins in September 2010 and is designed for executives at any company interested in increasing process capability, improving equipment reliability, and establishing a culture of team work – all critical components of an effective continuous improvement initiative.
“TPM enables a company to move from being a reactive to a proactive maintenance organization focused on preventive, scheduled and corrective maintenance activities,” said Maureen Fahey, managing partner of Productivity, Inc. “Moving from fix-and-repair to equipment management provides the flexibility necessary to substantially reduce costs and generate additional income by increasing overall capacity.”
Over four non-consecutive weeks, each participant will experience a series of learning modules; in between the weeks of training, students will be required to apply the methods they have learned in class to operations at their own companies.
Participants who successfully complete the four-week training and mentoring program, pass the certification exam and demonstrate successful implementation of the techniques in their own facility are then certified by Productivity Inc. and the Fisher College of Business as TPM Managers. Recertification is required after three years.
“More and more organizations are realizing that corporate profitability is built on asset reliability,” said Ellis New, Senior Management Consultant for Productivity. “As a result, it has become apparent that the Lean Manager can’t do it alone. There is a need for a counter-part to manage the improvement initiative from the equipment process reliability side. The TPM Manager fills this need. Having both a certified Lean Manager and certified TPM Manager will provide organizations with the synergy they need to really succeed.”
TPM Certification Program is the latest certification program offered by Productivity Inc. and the Fisher College of Business, which also conduct the Lean Manager Certification Program and the Lean Tool Awareness Certificate.

Productivity Inc. to Teach Ground Breaking LEAN Management Master’s Degree – the Master of Business Operational Excellence (MBOE)
Company expands its role at Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business
SHELTON, CT, September 30, 2008 – Productivity Inc, an international consulting and training firm delivering leading-edge Lean implementation strategies, has broadened its participation in Lean teaching through a unique and very topical program offered at Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business.
Ellis New, a senior management consultant with Productivity Inc., will be an instructor in the college’s Master of Business Operational Excellence (MBOE), the first of its kind in the nation and an innovative program that prepares high-potential managers for leadership in the emerging, rapid, and continuous improvement “Lean” environment found in leading service and manufacturing companies. Today, lean thinking is spreading to companies and organizations in every industry and in nations around the world, where business leaders are adapting Lean tools and principles well beyond manufacturing.
Expanding a role and opportunities
Participation in the MBOE program expands Productivity’s role in Lean management at Ohio State. Nearly 10 years ago, Productivity Inc. and the Fisher College of Business co-developed a program unlike any other, the Lean Manager Certification Program (LMAC). The program is designed for middle and top-level executives seeking the essential knowledge necessary to drive Lean throughout their entire organization. This highly interactive and fully accredited program spanning four non-consecutive weeks teaches a carefully sequenced arrangement of Lean concepts and tools. In between the weeks of training, students need to apply the methods that they have learned in operations at their own companies and present their results to the class.
The Lean Manager Certification Program was the first of its kind in the United States, and it continues to rank as one of the most viable and effective programs available today.
Peter Ward, Richard M. Moss Chair in Management, Fisher College of Business: “Now we have an opportunity to enhance the LMAC program with our year-long MBOE program, both of which are designed to create Lean thought leaders with a bias for action. Graduates will help lead their organizations to achieve the high level of operational excellence that a successful future requires.”
