Automating the Lean Office

Course Description

Many organizations are making progress applying Lean methods to their administrative functions. Implementation of 5S, Value Stream Mapping and other core Lean tools have helped us streamline processes and become more organized. However, there is still more we can do to not only eliminate waste but simultaneously elevate the staff from performing tasks to performing strategic level activities. This can be accomplished through automating the Lean office. Employing the seven steps of administrative automation can help to identify and eliminate additional sources of waste, further reducing non-value-added activities. Many of the remaining activities can then be automated. The administrative automation methodology will allow you to use your existing computer system to change manual operations into automated operations. This not only frees the administrative staff for more strategically focused work, but also reduces costs, errors, response times, and links disjointed processes.
